Abstract

Aging is associated with age-related changes in cardiovascular function, including alterations in resting heart rate, which may reduce the functional capacity of older adults. This study aimed to determine the effect of combined balance and resistance training on resting heart rate in older adults. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design was conducted involving 28 older adults, comprising an intervention group (n = 14) and a control group (n = 14). Resting heart rate was measured before and after the intervention. Changes in resting heart rate were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test, which revealed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that eight weeks of combined balance and resistance training significantly reduced resting heart rate in older adults.
